Me And Mrs. Jones – Billy Paul (1972)
“Me And Mrs. Jones” was a number-one single originally performed by soul singer Billy Paul, recorded and released in 1972 on Philadelphia International Records. The single, included on the album “360 Degrees Of Billy Paul”, was written by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. It describes an extramarital affair between a man and his lover, Mrs. Jones. The single became Paul’s only number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at that position for three weeks in December 1972. “Me And Mrs. Jones” also achieved this feat on Billboard’s R&B Singles chart, remaining at the number-one position for four weeks. Billy Paul (born Paul Williams, on December 1, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is a Grammy Award-winning American soul singer. He was usually identified by his distinguishably raspy voice, developing a vocal style that would incorporate traces of jazz, R&B and pop along with soul. Thischannel is dedicated to all the great ‘old school’ R&B music I grew up with, the stuff that originally made me tap my feet and want to be a DJ. Funk, soul, disco, R&B, dance, hip-hop, rap, jazz, pop . . . 60s, 70s, 80s . . . whatever you call it, it’s all ‘old school’ and it’s all here! I had a teacher that was single and her name was Miss Jones. I was in 8th grade she was about 28 and cool, we would sing this to her and I think it made her feel good. She was a great teacher, and if you had a problem you could go to her. I will never forget her, too you Miss Jones, we loved you I bet you remember us boys with our hormones raging ha ha…..

Unfortunately, the Philadelphia International Music studios were set ablaze in 2010 by a highly-intoxicated man who had broken into the studio on south Broad St.
There was massive damage, much memorabilia was lost, but fortunately, the master recordings were stored elsewhere.
